Aztecs men’s golf takes fifth place at Scottsdale Invitational

Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College men’s golf team closed out its third tournament of the season on Tuesday at the Scottsdale Invitational.

The Aztecs took fifth place after collectively shooting their best round of the season on Tuesday. They finished with a team score of 601 (306-295). South Mountain Community College took first place with 557 (283-274). The Aztecs finished five-strokes behind of Chandler-Gilbert Community College for fourth place and nine-strokes back from Mesa Community College, who took third place.

Sophomore Cooper Cordova (Mountain View HS) shot a 1-over 73 in the second round and finished tied for 11th in the individual standings with a score of 149 (76-73). Fellow sophomore Johnny Fiore (Marana HS) shot an even-par 72 in his second round of play as he finished tied for 14th with a 150 (78-72). Sophomore Bobby Padilla (Catalina Foothills HS) also shot a 150 (75-75) for the tournament.

Freshman Diego Cueva-Schraidt (Sabino HS) finished with a two-day total of 152 as he shot a 3-over par 75 in Tuesday’s round.

The Aztecs will play at the Eastern Arizona Invitational on Mar. 26-27 at the Mt. Graham Golf Course in Thatcher, AZ. Teams will begin to tee off at 10:00 a.m. for both rounds.
