Aztecs softball falls at Central Arizona College

(Coolidge, AZ)  The Pima Community College softball team (6-8, 6-8 in ACCAC) lost its sixth straight game on Wednesday as the Aztecs got swept at Central Arizona College (19-10, 13-7).

Freshman Lorisa Martinez finished the day 3 for 5 with three RBIs, a run, a walk, a double and a home run. She also took a loss on the mound.

Game 1: Central Arizona College Vaqueras 3, Pima CC Aztecs 0

The Aztecs managed five hits for the game as they left six runners stranded.

Martinez finished 2 for 3 with a double. Freshman Jazmin Ayala (Sunnyside HS) and sophomore Giselle Muñoz (Salpointe Catholic HS) each went 1 for 3 while freshman Kayla Gonzales (Salpointe Catholic HS) was 1 for 2.

Martinez took the loss (1-2) as she pitched six innings giving up three runs (three earned) on six hits with two strikeouts and three walks on 91 pitches.

Game 2: Central Arizona College Vaqueras 13, Pima CC Aztecs 4 (5 innings)

The Vaqueras broke open a tie score with nine runs in the 4th inning.
Down 4-1 in the 4th inning, the Aztecs rallied with Muñoz getting a leadoff walk. Ayala hit a single with one out and Martinez went yard with the first pitch she saw hitting a 3-run homer to centerfield to tie the game at 4-4.

Freshman Lesly Cazares (Desert View HS) put the Aztecs on the scoreboard in the 2nd inning with her RBI single to plate freshman Desiree Martinez (Canyon del Oro HS).

Lorisa Martinez finished the game 1 for 2 with three RBIs, a run scored and a walk. Ayala was 1 for 2 with a run and Cazares went 1 for 2 with an RBI. Muñoz drew two walks and scored a run.

Ayala took the loss (1-1) as she pitched three and two-third innings giving up nine runs (nine earned) on 14 hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

The Aztecs will be back on the road on Thursday when they play an ACCAC doubleheader at Chandler-Gilbert Community College. The first game starts at noon.
