Dolphins name former Arizona pitcher Snyder to coaching staff

(Jacksonville, FL)  Jacksonville University Softball Head Coach Erica Ayers was proud to announce the addition of Gina Snyder as the new softball graduate assistant on Tuesday morning.

We are so fortunate to be able to add Gina to our staff. She has tremendous life and softball experience we believe will be extremely impactful on our student-athletes as well as us as a staff,” Ayers said.

Snyder, a 2019 graduate of the University of Arizona and a four-time All-Southern Arizona player and All-Southern Arizona Pitcher of the Year joins the staff at Jacksonville after a successful collegiate career as a Big Ten and Pac-12 competitor.

Snyder joined the roster at Arizona after two seasons at Purdue University. In her first season as a Boilermaker she ranked fourth in the Big Ten holding opponents to a .206 batting average. She saw action in 22 games while making 10 starts. Her 7-3 freshman year record included 71 strikeouts and three complete games through 65 innings. She capped off her freshman season ranked 47th nationally in hits allowed per seven innings (5.28) and 54th in strikeouts per seven innings (7.6) As a sophomore in 2016 she went 5-8 with 69 strikeouts in 72 innings while holding opponents to a .227 average, which ranked her sixth in the Big Ten .

“I’m excited for the opportunity to learn under Coach Ayers and for the chance to work with the team to compete for a championship,” Snyder commented.

Upon her 2018 arrival in Tucson she appeared in three games in her first season as a Wildcat. Two of her three appearances occurred against Oregon and UCLA, both teams who went on to the Women’s College World Series.

Snyder came back in 2019 as a valuable asset in the pitching rotation while becoming the only collegiate pitcher to ever throw a shutout vs. the world’s No 2. Team Japan. With a 1.95 ERA she went 5-0 on the season, while grabbing victories over the defending national champions and top-ranked Florida State Seminoles and No. 3 ranked UCLA Bruins. She struck out 30 batters on the season while not giving up a single walk in her final five appearances and went on to be named first-team Pac-12 all-academic.

Since earning her Bachelor of Science in Science, Technology, Health, and Society from Arizona in 2019 Snyder went on to work as a recruiter for National Scouting Report (NSR) and a coach in the Florida Gulf Coast League.

While at Jacksonville Snyder will be working towards her Master’s in Instructional Leadership, Training, and Development.
