Aztecs men’s basketball’s 7-game winning streak snapped at Phoenix College

(Phoenix, AZ)  The Pima Community College men’s basketball team (18-11, 12-9 in ACCAC) found itself in a tight battle against a potential playoff opponent on Saturday at Phoenix College (19-10, 12-9).

The Aztecs fell to the Bears 103-98 in a contest between two teams who have secured spots in the NJCAA Region I, Division II playoffs.

The back and forth game featured the Aztecs taking a 76-73 lead with 9:30 left but the game was tied at 85-85 with five minutes left. The Aztecs trailed 92-91 with 2:30 remaining and fell behind at 100-97 with 32 seconds left on the clock.

The Aztecs trailed 47-41 at halftime and outscored the Bears 57-56 in the second half.

With the Bears and Glendale Community College winning on Saturday, the Aztecs sit at the No. 4 seed with one regular season game remaining.

The Aztecs will close out the regular season on Tuesday against the Gauchos at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium for Homecoming and Sophomore Night. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
