Sugar Skulls add four more players

(Tucson, AZ)  The Tucson Sugar Skulls added four players to their 2020 training camp roster bringing the total to 26 players signed for the team’s second season.

Pending the upcoming release of the 2020 Indoor Football League schedule, the Sugar Skulls expect to begin training camp in early March under new head coach Dixie Wooten.

The four players signed are:

Linwood Banks6’1, 290 pounds, defensive line, Grambling State University. Appeared in 12 games in 2016 where he had nine tackles, five unassisted. In 2017 he played in all 13 games on the defensive line and finished the year with 24 tackles including 15 solo. He also had three tackles for loss.

Reggie McGee, 6’1, 240 pounds, defensive end, Ball State University. McGee played at Hartnell Junior College in Salinas, California. During his junior college career, he recorded 52 tackles and a program-record 15 sacks. He helped the team finish 10-1 overall in 2015. He then went to Ball State University where he played in 11 games each in 2016 and 2017In his final year at Ball State, he had four tackles and a fumble recovery.

Warren Messer, 5-11, 227 pounds, linebacker, Elon UniversityMesser appeared in all 11 games as a true freshman and recorded 45 total tackles including seven solo, 3½ tackles for loss and two sacks. In 2016 Messer started eight games, where he had a total of 66 tackles, ½ tackles for loss and 1½ sacks. In 2017 he earned multiple awards including All-American honors from STATS FCS and Phil Steele and First-team All-CAA Football linebacker. His senior year in 2018 he had a total of 93 tackles and 44 of them solo and ranked fourth in CAA.

Jeremy Schonbrunner, 6’3, 310 pounds, center, Temple University. Played in 30 games at Temple and started nine. Began his indoor football career in 2014 and started 13 games for the Tampa BayStorm in 2015. Most recently played with the Columbus Lions of the National Arena League.

The Sugar Skulls will play seven regular-season home games at the Tucson Arena beginning in March with the regular season running through June. The IFL playoffs will begin in early July.
