Mexican Baseball Fiesta

Mexican Baseball Fiesta kicks off

(Tucson, AZ)  Los Mochis and Ciudad Obregón started things off in the annual Mexican Baseball Fiesta at Kino Stadium on Tucson’s Southside.

Yoanys Sánchez took the mound for Los Mochis Cañeros and quickly struck out two of the three batters in the top of the first inning.

In the bottom half of the the first inning, Ciudad Obregón pitcher Carlos De Leon also breezed by getting the top of the lineup out in order for the Yaquis.

Los Mochis got on the board in the top of the second inning with a one out double and a fielder’s choice. Two consecutive hits followed with Guadalupe Sanchez doubling home two runs and a 2-0 lead.

Both teams changed pitchers in the fourth inning. Los Mochis brought in reliever Luis  Valdez who struck out two Yaqui batters along with a fly ball to set the side down in order.

Rudolfo Garcia came in for the Ciudad Obregón and was in trouble almost immediately. After the first batter flied out, A deep single to left field and two wild pitches putting the runner at third base. Jose Lugo hot a sacrifice fly to bring in the third run, 3-0.

The Yaquis came back in the sixth inning when Paulo Orlando smacked a stand up double. Both runners were safe on a botched fielders choice attempt. An Orlando Piña double made the score 3-2.

Ciudad Obregón changed pitchers brought in Marco Durate, who quickly gave up a stand up double to right field, but got out of the jam with no further damage done with a fly out and a strikeout.

In the seventh inning, Los Mochis  put Juan Gámez ion to pitch. A single that ricocheted off Gámez leg, He set down the next two batters but before he could get out of the inning, Orlando singled and got his second RBI if the game to tie the score 3-3.

Good pitching on both sides and the game ended in a tie to allow the Fiesta to continue on schedule.
