(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s and women’s track & field teams competed at the Triton Invitational on Saturday in San Diego, CA.
Sophomore (Rio Rico HS) set a national qualifier in the 3,000 meter steeplechase as he finished with a time of 9 minutes, 52.26 seconds. The Aztecs have set 12 national qualifying marks during the outdoor season.
Sophomore Tyler Valenzuela (Canyon del Oro HS) took first place in the open pole vault event as he set a new personal-record with a vault of 15-feet, 3-inches. His mark puts him No. 4 in the country. His previous national qualifying vault was 14-feet, 7.25-inches.

In women’s competition, sophomore Katherine Bruno (Canyon del Oro HS) took second place in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 18:03.33. She set a new personal-best and knocked off over 40 seconds from her previous time of 18:45.12.
Freshman Mary Siml set a new personal-best in the 1,500-meter race as she finished with a time of 4:54.01. Her previous national qualifying time was 4:59.27.
The Aztecs will compete in the NJCAA Region I Championships on Tuesday, Apr. 30 and Thursday, May 2 at Mesa Community College. Events begin at 5:00 p.m. on both days.
