Aztecs men’s golf leads after two rounds at NJCAA Region I, Division I Championship

(Tucson, AZ)  The Pima Community College men’s golf team sits in first place on Friday after the first two rounds of play at the NJCAA Region I, Division I Championship.

The Aztecs shot a two-round total of 590 (294-296). They lead Eastern Arizona College by 16-strokes in the team standings. The Gila Monsters are in second place with 606 (308-298) while Estrella Mountain Community College is in third with 644 (317-327).

Freshman Samuel Salisbury (Walden Grove HS) sits in third place in the individual standings after two rounds of play. He took the lead after Thursday’s first round when he shot a 1-over par 71. He has a two day score of 146 (71-75)

Freshman Luis Riesgo (Cienega HS) is in fourth place with a two-day total of 147 (73-74) while sophomore Diego Cueva-Schraidt (Sabino HS) is in fifth with a 148 (75-73). Freshman Cody Goza (Blue Ridge HS) shot a 149 (75-74) and is in sixth place.

Freshman Curtis Goldin (McClintock HS) had a 4-stroke improvement from his first round as he sits in ninth place with a 156 (80-76).

The Aztecs continue play at the Gold Canyon Golf Resort on Saturday as teams begin to tee off for the third round at noon
