(Mesa, AZ)  The Park University Gilbert men’s and women’s soccer teams took on Simpson University this evening at Legacy Sports Park. The Buc women fell in the tough defensive struggle 1-0, while the men ties 0-0 against the Red Hawks. In what could only be described as a defensive battle, the Red Hawks were able to nip the Bucs 1-0 with a second half goal off a set piece to take the victory.

The two teams combined for only 10 shots overall (6 SU, 4 Park) and but both teams managed to make those shots count both getting four shots on goal. Simpson also had the advantage in corner kicks by a slim 6-4 margin.

The only goal of the game came at 56:33 of the second half as Chloe Tague put away a rebound that came off of Park goalkeeper Catherine Corlett’s hands.

The Red Hawks defense stiffened and did not allow the Bucs to get a shot the remainder of the game.

Alexandra White got two of the Bucs four shots on goal for the game, while Leigha Ritchie and Emma Alvarez had the other two.

The first half of this contest saw the Bucs apply a lot of offensive pressure but were unable to capitalize on the advantage going into halftime scoreless.

The second half got a little chippy with some verbal jousting between the two squads as they continued to attempt to find the first tally to take the lead.

But neither team was able to get that go ahead goal. Both teams had opportunities in the last minute, the Bucs with a corner kick and then the Red Hawks with one within the last 10 seconds of the game but neither team could penetrate the others defensive wall.

Park dominated the stat sheet with nine shots (7 on goal) to only five shots (2 on goal) for Simpson.

Freshman Nicklas Lageson put together his second consecutive clean sheet in his first two starts and the Bucs have now not allowed a goal in three straight games. This is the second scoreless tie for the Buccaneers in a week after never having a scoreless tie in its history.

Both teams host Pacific Union College on Sunday at Legacy Sports Park with the women starting at 6 p.m. and the men at approximately 8 p.m.
