Ou, Mantelman and Boyer advance in consolation brackets at NJCAA Nationals

Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College men’s tennis closed out the third day of competition at the NJCAA Division I National Championship on Wednesday.

The Aztecs advanced in three of the four consolation brackets in singles play.

Sophomore Tomothy Ou earned a shutout victory over Nathan Johnsen from Marion Military Institute (AL) 6-0, 6-0 to advance to the No. 1 singles flight consolation semifinals.

Freshman Scott Mantelman advanced to the No. 3 singles flight consolation semifinals after he downed James Kirkham from Prairie State College (IL) 6-3, 6-4.

 

Freshman Beau Boyer (Cibola HS) won his consolation quarterfinal match in the No. 6 singles flight after he defeated Sebastian Harrell from Copiah-Lincoln Community College (MS)  6-1, 6-2.

Freshman Chris McDaniels fell in his consolation quarterfinals match at No. 4 singles to Nicklaus Neal from the University of South Carolina Sumter 6-2, 6-3.

Mantelman and Boyer will face players from Glendale Community College on Thursday. Mantelman played Charlie Zwolsman twice this season. He lost in three sets to close the regular season and fell 7-5, 7-5 earlier in the year. Boyer faces off against Noah Mendoza, who he lost to in three sets in the final regular season match.

The Aztecs continue play at the Collin County Tennis Facilities on Thursday.

No. 1 – Tomothy Ou vs. John Brett, Hartford Community College (MD)

No. 3 – Scott Manterlman vs. Charlie Zwolsman, Glendale Community College

No. 6 – Beau Boyer vs. Noah Mendoza, Glendale Community College
