Dylla takes fifth in 800 meter as Aztecs track & field produces five All-americans at NJCAA Championships

Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College men’s and women’s track & field teams closed out the 2018 season on Saturday in the final day of the NJCAA Division I National Championships.

The Aztecs men’s team placed 22nd in the final standings out of 32 teams with eight points.

Sophomore Collin Dylla (Ironwood Ridge HS) earned four points as he took fifth place in the 800 meter race. He finished with a personal-best time of 1 minute, 51.98 seconds and took home NJCAA All-American status.

The top seven finishers in each event took home NJCAA All-American honors. Dylla, along with sophomore pole vaulter Tony Chavez (Bisbee HS) and freshman jumper Cameron Crandall (Canyon del Oro HS) earned NJCAA All-American recognition. Chavez took seventh place in the pole vault and Crandall was seventh in the high jump.

The women’s team finished 22nd out of 30 teams with a total of eight points.

Freshman Anahiramar Lopez (Tucson HS) and sophomore Megan Schiffmacher (Cactus HS) earned NJCAA All-American honors for the Aztecs. Lopez took third place in the high jump while Schiffmacher finished seventh also in the high jump.

Freshman Katherine Bruno (Canyon del Oro HS) – 9th in 1,500 meter (5:02.45)

Freshman Hailey Myles (Boulder Creek HS) – 11th in Triple Jump (37-feet, 11.25-inches, 11.56 meters)

Sophomore Seth Jarus (Wickenburg HS) – 12th in Triple Jump (46-feet, 3.25-inches, 14.10 meters)
