Cueva-Schraidt and Padilla named All-Region as Aztecs men’s golf takes second at Region I Championship

Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College men’s golf team fell short at capturing its fourth straight NJCAA Region I, Division I title but still came away with some hardware.

The Aztecs produced their best collective round of the tournament but couldn’t overtake Eastern Arizona College. The Aztecs finished second with a score of 1213 (311-301-312-289) while the Gila Monsters shot a 1187 (299-299-303-286). Scottsdale Community College was third with 1232 (311-313-309-299).

Freshman Diego Cueva-Schraidt (Sabino HS) and sophomore Bobby Padilla (Catalina Foothills HS) earned NJCAA All-Region honors after finishing in the top 8. Cueva-Schraidt fell short of winning the individual tournament as he took third place. He shot an even-par 70 on Sunday and finished with a 298 (73-74-81-70). He was two shots behind the leader in the final standings.

Padilla shot the only under par round of the tournament as he finished Sunday with a 1-under par 69 and finished tied for eighth place with a 304 (85-72-78-69).

Sophomore Cooper Cordova (Mountain View HS) took 10th place after he shot a 305 (77-81-73-74) for the tournament. Fellow sophomore Johnny Fiore (Marana HS) was 11th with a 306 (76-74-80-76).

The Aztecs qualified for the NJCAA Division I Tournament on May 15-18 which will be held at Rawls Course in Lubbock, TX.
