No. 10 Cats Split Action in the West at Cal Poly No. 10 Arizona splits action in Pismo, ending with an overall record of (7-3).

No. 10 Arizona concluded their second tournament on the road against No. 6 Cal Poly and TCU. The team earned a victory against TCU (4-1) and battled, but fell to Cal Poly Mustangs (1-4). Today’s split action brings the No. 10 Arizona Beach Volleyball team to a (7-2) overall record.

The Wildcats began their day of play with a match up against TCU. The Horned Frogs’ No. 3 team of Molly Scheel and Jensyn Bledsoe picked up a win against Arizona’s Mia Mason and Makenna Martin, (21-13, 21-19). The No. 2 team of Brooke Burling and Jonny Baham claimed victory over TCU pair Claire Doyle and Hannah Rogers, (21-16, 23-21). Natalie Anselmo and Olivia Macdonald, standing as Arizona’s No. 1 pair, defeated Jillian Bergeson and Jae Greene, (21-3, 21-13).

To secure the win, No. 4 pair of Olivia Hallaran and Kacey Nady took TCU’s Cassie House and Haven Hill to a third set, ending with a score of (18-21, 22-20, 15-9). In straight sets, Hailey Devlin and Stephany Purdue took on and defeated Horned Frogs’ No. 5 tandem of Jordan Westendorf and Brooke Sassin, (21-17, 21-18).

With back to back matches, No. 10 Arizona fell short to No. 6 Cal Poly after a hard fought battle. The No. 1 duo of Torrey Van Winden and Tiadora Miric picked up the first win for the Mustangs against Wildcats Natalie Anselmo and Olivia Macdonald, (21-13, 21-19). This is the first loss for Cats Natalie Anselmo and Olivia Macdonald bringing them to a (9-1) pairs record.

After a battle, Arizona’s No. 2 pair Olivia Hallaran and Nacey Nady with a (7-3) pairs record suffered a loss against Emily Sonny and Samantha Manley, (13-21, 15-21). Arizona’s Jonny Baham and Brooke Burling fought through three sets, but fell to No. 4 pair Raeann Greisen and Hannah Hubbard, (21-13, 20-22, 17-15). Cal Poly’s No. 3 tandem of Adlee Van Winden and Taylor Nelson would go on to pick up a win against Mia Mason and Makenna Martin, (21-14, 21-13). To close out the match action, No. 5 pair of Hailey Devlin and Stephany Purdue battled through three sets and claimed victory over Cal Poly’s Heather Pembroke and Macy Gordon, (21-15, 18-21, 15-9).

The Wildcats remain on the road to continue their away streak in Monterey, Calif. No. 10 Arizona will compete in the Monterey College Invitational Sunday, March 18. The Cats will take on the San Jose State Spartans for the second time this season. The match begins at 10 a.m. MST. In the following hours at 12 p.m. MST, UA takes on Santa Clara.
