Aztecs softball blanked in second game, drop doubleheader at Arizona Western College

Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College softball team (24-10, 15-9 in ACCAC) got back to ACCAC conference play on Saturday but fell in both games in Yuma.

After scoring 31 runs on Thursday, the Aztecs were held to three runs on Saturday against Arizona Western College (26-11, 20-6).

Arizona Western College Matadors 8, Pima CC Aztecs 3: The Aztecs took an early lead in the top of the 1st inning but the Matadors scored two runs in the bottom of the 1st and four in the 3rd inning.

Freshman Mya Cabral (Pueblo HS) hit an RBI single in the 1st to put the Aztecs on the board. Cabral scored a run to tie the game at 2-2 in the 3rd inning after sophomore Alyssa Smith (Winslow HS) reached on an error.

Cabral finished the game 4 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Freshman Alese Casper went 2 for 4 with a run scored while sophomore Chandler Arviso (Cibola HS) was 2 for 3 with a run scored.
Casper took the loss (6-6) after she pitched six innings giving up eight runs (eight earned) on 11 hits with four strikeouts and four walks.

Game 2: Arizona Western College Matadors 8, Pima CC Aztecs 0 (5 innings): The Aztecs were held to just one hit for the game as the Matadors scored three runs in the 3rd inning and five runs in the 5th inning to close it out.

Alizea Durazo-Corday (Pueblo HS) provided the only hit for the Aztecs in the 2nd inning. Sophomore Sierra Gentry drew a walk in the game.
Gentry took the loss for the Aztecs (2-1) as she went four and one-third innings giving up eight runs (five earned) on 12 hits with two walks.

The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus Softball Field on Tuesday when they host Glendale Community College in a doubleheader. First pitch will be at 1:00 p.m.
