Cooper and Ahumada goals help Aztecs men’s soccer hand Scottsdale first defeat  

 

Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College men’s soccer team (3-1-1, 3-1-1 in ACCAC) got back on track on Tuesday at Kino North Stadium.

The No. 13 ranked Aztecs snapped Scottsdale Community College’s (3-1, 3-1) undefeated streak in their 2-1 victory.

Sophomore Chris Cooper (University HS) put the Aztecs on the board in the 26th minute when he hit a shot that was set-up by fellow sophomore Tatsuma Yuki. The Aztecs held a 1-0 advantage the break.

The Aztecs expanded their lead three minutes into the second half when freshman Giovanni Ahumada (Tucson HS) found the back of the net with an assist from Daisuke Takanaka in the 48th minute.

The Artichokes made things interesting with a goal in the 74th minute. The Artichokes had a final shot at the goal in the 88th minute on a breakaway but the shot sailed right of freshman goalkeeper David Silva.

Silva finished the game with two saves.

The Aztecs will hit the road for the next three games. They’ll play GateWay Community College on Thursday at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex in Phoenix at 7:00 p.m.
